In the voice over business, the voice comes first. When you have the luxury of numerous takes, a bit of mouth noise or worse, a sore throat, can take you out of the game. To that end, I would love to share with you some tips based on some of things that have helped me over the years.

Last spring I got really sick. So sick that I thought to myself that “this is why elderly people die from the flu.” I realized that this was the sickest I had been in eight years.

In my effort to understand how I got so sick, I had a conversation with the almighty. Ultimately, I realized that we sometimes get sick because we need the rest. I had not realized that the ONLY time I slow down is when I am sick. Note to self: take better care everyday so I don’t have to do this for at least another eight years.

Keep your body alkaline. There has been a lot of research on the importance of keeping the body alkaline. Life, stress, dairy, sugar, fast food, coffee, pretty much everything most of us love is what creates acid in our system. An acid environment is where disease is born…. from the common cold, to sinus infections and even cancer. Here is a link here to an amazing video interview with Dr. Tullio Simonici, an oncologist who has looked at cancer close up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQuODiMlUsc

I use Young Living Organic Essential oils. One of their fantastic products is called Alka-Lime. You place a teaspoon of this powder into a glass of water and drink it at bedtime. It alkalizes your system overnight. If I am feeling challenged I do this three times a day.

When my daughter was two and half, I was diagnosed with Epstein Barr or Chronic Fatigue. I was told by my physician at the time to take oil of oregano and oil of thyme lingually. Today I use Young Living oil of oregano, oil of thyme and oil of basil. I place drop of each on my tongue. It is extremely hot. Sometimes I place a drop of each in a glass of water, then drink that down and follow with lots of water to cool my mouth down. Some people prefer to take the oils via a gelatin capsule.

Why would I subject myself to this? I have found that oregano, thyme and basil are very anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal oils. I believe they keep me strong, healthy and cold and flu free.

Also, Thieves is my favorite oil to use when I get that first hint that something is wrong with my immune system. Like the first dry tickle in the throat. Another item from Young Living Oils is Thieves mouthwash. If you have read any studies on the power of colloidal silver, that is one of the powerful ingredients in Thieves mouthwash. A gargle before bedtime is best.

Keep your mouth healthy. Brush and floss daily.

For everyday mouth noise you can eat a green Granny Smith apple or, another tip I received from my voice over buddy Joe Cipriano (who learned it from George DelHoyo), regarding pesky mouth noise is to use Alkalol. It is about $5 and is available without a prescription at your local pharmacy. You use it as a gargle as it alkalizes the mouth. It can also be used as a wash for the nasal cavity if you have a sinus infection. When I have mouth noise, I eat a green apple, or I take a swish of Alkalol. Maybe these remedies can work for you?

Hi Neen-What can I say obviously great minds think alike. I love the aroma of my essential oils. I diffuse all the time. In fact I wear Thieves as a perfume. It is cinnamon, clove, lemon and other essential oils. It smells wonderful and clean.
namaste!

Thanks so much for this great information. It is so true, that we only slow down when sick. I find Airbourne works for me. I'm going to look into essential oils again. I used to make perfumes, and still play around with that from time to time. I used EO's to make my scents.
Cheers!!!!

Thanks for sharing Randy! Any tips from you or Mr. Cipriano are welcome...
(FWIW: I've found Hand Sanitizer helpful and haven't been sick in five years)
