‎"Sitting in VO Booth" can be as deadly as smoking!! - What are you doing to make up from sitting hours at the desk?

Smoking cigarettes is the cause of so much preventable, deadly disease. But now new research shows sitting for long stretches of time may be just as dangerous.

“Smoking certainly is a major cardiovascular risk factor and sitting can be equivalent in many cases,” explained Dr. David Coven.

Dr. Coven is a cardiologist. He says several new studies show prolonged sitting is now being linked to increased risk of heart disease, obesity, diabetes, cancer, and even early death.

90 minutes a day at least 5 days a week at the Y (formerly known as the YMCA)  -- biking, swimming, rowing.  Great way to stay active and provides some concentrated "thinking/planning" time.

That's what caused the blood clots that ended up with me having surgery in the hospital in January this year. Serious stuff.

Moving is mandatory to healthful living...period.  Pick your poison and do it.  Something is better than nothing.  I walk a minimum of 20 minutes a day...35 is better and if I can sneak a little yoga in I'm good.  I won't be winning any gold medals but I should be able to walk up the stairs for a very long time.

Three things guarantee to keep me up out of my chair and active throughout the day.  My dog who needs 4-5 walks a day, stairs requiring several trips up and down a day and I also have a trainer two days a week to make sure I show up for workouts.  Otherwise it would be all too easy to sit in the studio all day long!

I have a suggestion on this topic.  It is a book that is about 5 years old.  It was my wake up call to start moving and make that one of my "jobs".  It is called Younger Next Year.  Written by Chris
and Henry S. Lodge.  It is straight, to the point and could save and/or add years to your life... if you a willing to do the work.  Check it out!

I have two 90 lb. Chocolate Labrador Retrievers that remind me regularly that I need to go outside and walk awhile. "Oh, and since you're going - mind if we trot along side and poop occasionally?"

I make sure I take regular cheese danish breaks!  <rim shot> But seriously, my son and I have been doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at least a couple times a week at a club we recently joined.  I find I'm sleeping better, need less sleep and don't need as many cheese danishes!
