I just wanted to get the word out that there will be a Voice Over Meetup / Mixer in Sacramento on June 18th hosted by Cammie Winston. Jim Naylor, Luis Garcia and yours truly. Our goal is to create a real Voice Over Community in Sacramento so we can all work together to build the local Voice Over business.
This will be held at Cammie and Jim's office at:
2110 K Street, Suite 17
Sacramento, CA 95816
This will be a great opportunity to meet fellow VO folks as… Continue

I hesitated to write this blog, but then I thought...I can't be the only one.
As I was putting together a new demo I ran into a real awakening. Piece by piece, I thoughtfully decided what went where. I then posted it for critique and emailed it to some trusted friends in the industry. The feedback..Well, it shocked me. I'll get to why in a moment. First let me re-introduce you to me, sort of.
Going back as far as jr. high school, people would mistake me for my father when… Continue
As we all know, self-promotion is a big part of the VO business. I just added an album called "Promotion" where you can view attempts at publicizing my latest bookings.

The difference between different types of gigs always amazes me. We all know that big campaign jobs are few and far between... but it is so easy to forget the different style of session that goes along with those gigs! I just did a session for a campaign gig last week and I left frustrated with myself because instead of the usual 1/2 hour for 2 spots, it took me 1 and 1/2 hours! And then I calmed down and reminded myself that for campaigns like that... it usually takes more… Continue

I'm prepping for my transition to Los Angeles this summer, so now I'm very busy. Working on getting as much variety and client work together for a suitable demo as I venture into California.
I've uploaded a couple new audios to the VO Demo section here, please check them out. My year here in England is nearly complete and I will be doing a fair amount of Stand Up in London I hope.
I am sad to report that my little pup, Fleigen the wonder-dog, all of 19 amazing years, is approaching the end of her road.
She has been suffering from occasional seizures which have suddenly increased as of Thursday night. Although my vet has prescribed anti-seizure meds, they are continuing and are starting to have longer lasting effects. We are waiting on blood tests to rule out any pathogens that could theoretically be the cause, although that is considered to be a longshot. The… Continue

For somebody like me who is just starting out in the VO biz, as far as outside of my "Radio" environment, I am faced with the questions of how and where to start. At first glance it looks like there are some great websites where talent can post profiles and audition for jobs, and there are welcoming communities like right here at VU, but then suddenly the smoke clears and it looks as if some of these "pay to play" sites may not be the answer I was looking for.
The recent discussions (on Voices.com) about headshots-pro and con- made me think about my own experience in a pre-headshot time. Back in St. Louis I attended a school for broadcasting that "prepared you for a career in radio/TV announcing." Completion of the course depended upon your final demo or 'keeper' tape and passage of your FCC exam for the Radiotelephone Operators Permit 3rd class w/endorsement (people older than the state of Kansas will remember when you actually NEEDED an FCC license… Continue
Hey y'all!
In February I did a series of small market TV spot VO's for a North Carolina ad agency. They paid me $1250 for the session. The money was sent via PayPal. It arrived in my PayPal account, I transferred the funds to my bank account and proceeded to spend the $1250 on luxury items like food and shelter. (times are tough all over)
Yesterday my Pal Pal balance was negative $1250. The buyer had revoked the payment. His bank took back the money. Now any payments to my PayPal… Continue
Has it really been 39 years since we first celebrated Earth Day?
I am proud to say that I was among the many Americans who participated in the first demonstration.
On April 22 1970 we gathered in Washington D.C. in support of this National Day of Observance of Environmental Problems. Of course, even in this peaceful demonstration we all received criticism for our ideals and concerns. Much like the debate over Global Warming today, Earth Day was seen as a bunch… Continue
The single most valuable, and unexpected, attribute you can develop from doing commercial work, aside from gaining the confidence you can earn a living for yourself as an actor, is the opportunity to hone your skills from one medium (stage, for instance) to another (television or film).......Continue reading the latest Sound Advice Blog by Kate McClanaghan here on the Official Sound Advice Blog.

Do you ever get the feeling that your questions, concerns or worries are falling on deaf ears by those of whom could provide a solution?
Many times you feel like you’re beating head against the wall. It can be so frustrating. I’m sure you can think of many examples. Here’s the classic one for me; You call a business with a concern and are placed on hold….. “Your call is important to us….please stay on the line for the next available operator” ....this then goes on and on….sometimes… Continue
