I WORK IN THE VOICE OVER INDUSTRY AS A(N)
Voice Actor, Vocal Coach
HERE'S A LITTLE ABOUT ME AND MY VOICE OVER EXPERIENCE
Hello,

After careful consideration I decided to move from Los Angeles to Tokyo, Japan. I've lived here previously, but being absent from any place for 12 years means you don't return to exactly what you left. And so it is true here.

I brought with me a Public Speaking concept which I developed while in LA, and taught in some area Colleges. Working in VO & On-camera work, I'll promote my training for Public Speaking & Presentations in English, here in Japan and around Asia.

My "studio" is up-n-running. I live in a Hi-rise with a noisy road down below. I can close off most of it and on weekends, the noise diminishes allowing me to record quite nicely.

I ditched 'Pro Tools' early last year and replaced it with Twisted Wave. An excellent decision. No spinning Beachball, no hanging, no 48 tracks to deal with. And I had studied ProTools, became pretty good at it. But most of us don't need it... check out TW, the Support is exceptional.

VO is in turmoil in the US with many pay-2-play on-line agencies allowing/encouraging lo-ball bidding. I'm not interested in winning the 'Race to the Bottom'. I hope quality will win out in the end.

While in LA, I Volunteer recorded for the Braille Institute & RFBD. I support volunteer activities and if you're looking for a way to get mic time, or get connected, or just feel good... volunteer to Read for people who can't.

Hi from Tokyo,

After I decided to move from Los Angeles to Tokyo, Japan I realized you don't return to exactly what you left. And so it is true here. With this move,

I brought with me a Public Speaking concept which I developed & taught in LA area Colleges. This past year I've refined the original idea, focusing on an International Market. I'm now in the middle of a website remake which is demanding as I'm not a 'coder' but the site's beginning to show possibilities.

Working in VO & On-camera work is not as busy, read that as "lucrative" as in the past.  Establishing strong connections is required in Japan and that doesn't happen overnight. Yet I've worked on several good projects and with the assistance of previous contacts, I've been moving ahead this past year.

The future is going to involve or revolve around Asia and not just China. Japan is set for a resurgence too. India, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Korea, are all positioned for growth. Something to think about.

I need to improve my home recording capabilities. Although my equipment is ok, I really must learn how to properly use EQ & Compression to enhance my results and have my Demo's stand out. There must be a book that discusses VO rather then 48-track recording for Musicians.

2013 already and I'm positive about the future. Happy New Year to all @ VU.

Tom: Thought it would be interesting to collect the top recommended Pro Tools plug-ins used by voiceover home studio users. My list would include: BNR, Normalize, and EQ 3. When you are putting your money where your mouth is, what plug-ins add real value? Share and enjoy! Al
