Profile Information

Voice Actor, Voiceover Coach
John is the Production Director for Boston's award winning* Mix 104.1(WBMX). John's reputation for creating effective radio commercials that sell for the station and its clients continues to grow.

Prior to joining Mix 98-5 in December of 2001, John worked at Boston's Original Oldies station, Oldies 103.3 (WODS) from 1994 to 2001. John has also worked at other radio stations in the Greater Boston area. He has experience working on many freelance projects for Television, political candidates, Non-Profit Art Centers, and the business community.

John is known throughout the Boston area and nationally for the great character voices he uses in commercials, promotions and announcements. Writing the copy for many of his clients allows him to be creative, using straight or character voices, music and sound effects.

John has an extensive music background, having studied piano, clarinet and saxophone and he has played in numerous ensembles. Though his playing skills may be a bit rusty, his knowledge of music has undoubtedly helped him with his production in that it has trained his ears to "hear where the edits make sense."

Another reason his commercials have been so successful may be that John comes from a family business background. He's been at the shop before sunrise and gone home long after sunset. He understands the many hats business owners wear to develop their businesses. He knows how they "butter their bread" and their need to have the most effective campaign possible.

John is a lifelong resident of Massachusetts and lives in the Boston area.

Hello John,
Thank you for your reply and friendship. I am grateful.
I realize that you are a busy man.
Please allow me to explain myself. After years of many people telling me I should got into voice over, I'm finally doing it. I've signed for coaching which begins on the 12th of this month. In the meantime, I'm doing all that I can think of to prepare myself with networking, practice in voice technique, and reading, exercises etc.

On the marketing end, I'm barely able to visualize what I should do. In your discussion on "UPS" and "Perceived Value", you brought up topics like: the way you treat your clients, how you look after them, how you dress, speak on the phone, how you write your emails, your letterhead, demo packaging, the experience they have with you in the studio. My “Presentation.”

Soon I must pay close attention to these things as I market myself. Could you please impart some detailed advice on: how to write a good email, how to speak on the phone, how to treat my clients, packaging my demo (which has yet to be produced). What is a good studio experience?
If you could find time in your busy schedule to address one or more of these subjects to me, I would be extremely grateful and a more confident beginner.

Thank you for your time,
Mike Zustak.
