I revisited your comment on my VU page today...did I tell you I coach by telephone? It is really quite satisfactory my clients tell me....let me know if interested and we would set date time. One hour or ninety minute session and you can choose topic, materials, whatever.
HEllo. Thanks for joining my Bettye Zoller Voiceover Central group on this site! Wow. I see here you voiced Lionel Trains 2008. ME TOO! My voice is the waitress in the club car and waitress in the cocktail lounge. Fun project. Hope they ask me to do more. I didn't get a free train tho...darn. Do keep in touch. I've heard so many great things about you. Bettye www.voicesvoices.com
Hi, Bettye! I recently went to a company picnic (yes...I still have the "day" job) and there was a caricature artist there. I said:"I want me speaking into a microphone". This artist was so interested in voice over that she spent about 30 minutes drawing and asking me questions about V/O. I got a great caricature as a result! And the best part was it was FREE! I'm going to take it to Staples, have it scanned to a digital image, and put it up as my new "avotar". If you find a caricature artist in your area, it could be a great option to the traditional headshot. I love participating in this group. You are the BEST! Best regards, Dennis
Hi Dennis. Thanks for your comments on my group page Voiceover Central and for being a member. I posted a new topic today. Love your character drawing. I believe character art is a great thing for us vo talents. I had one for many years. The graphic artist cost me about $1000 and it was well worth it. Wish I could find a "friend" to do character of me again. Solicitations out there welcome. You and I are about the same age, by the way, so we probably have sort of the same career experiences. I started in voiceovers when we recorded four track and then eight track came in!!!! I started audio engineering when we spliced tape with a razor blade! Yes, I am a voice producer too and own studio in Dallas that my clients can rent for their jobs or they can hire me to voice for them or produce for them. I do vo demos regularly for clients many of whom travel here to work with me and also do audio books and audio programs of many kinds for clients. I love my work. Thank you for your kind comments, particularly the one where you said I am an "industry icon." Because of that comment, Dennis, I've had little dolls made of myself that retail for $200 and I'm selling them and T Shirts and little icons you hang from your car's rearview mirror and....ONLY KIDDING...it's a joke folks...but Dennis, sincere thank you for the comment. BZ
Hi, Bonnie. It was very easy! I get my domain names through Network Solutions (network solutions.com), and they also offer hosting packages and free software for developing your web site. They may not be the cheapest around, but I find them to be very reliable. The software is easy to use for developing your site and for updating it. You can upload pictures, video, voice files, and anything else and load them to your site. The thing I like best is that you can have a development site separate from you production site, so you can be developing a site without impacting what the public sees. I'm sure there are others that offer this, but I have been very happy with Network Solutions. I'm happy to answer any questions, so stay in touch. Best regards, Dennis
I was wondering how difficult it is to develop your own website. Did you find a particular type of software helpful? How long did it take you to develop the basic frame work? Just curious if this is something I would want to take on myself or pay someone else to do it. It seems like good information to have, particularly if you want to update it.
I enjoyed reading your bio and your website, which was very well done. I noticed you are using similar equipment (MBox Mini with ProTools) and you have the same concerns that I do about upgrading to Vista. Hopefully DigiDesign with get their act together and develop a patch so that PT will be compatible with Vista.
Strike is not imminent ( emminent? imigrant? ).
What is imminent, is a lousy deal from management. You can thank AFTRA for that. We have tried to get a better deal from the slave owners for the middleclass actor ( non star) but with AFTRA offering up to 25 free exhibition DAYS, no resids in new media, no compensation for actors promoting name products in a show and more, we are phucked.
Ah well, 3 years is not long to suffer under that whip and since the members really cannot see the difference between getting compensation fairly for their work and AFTRA's position which is More work for less money, then so be it.
But no fear. I do not see a job action in our immediate future,
Do know however, that we have never gotten any major gains ( ie:RESIDUALS) without going to the streets. Management offers nothing when contracts are renewed, Just a slight cost of living raise and that's it. SAG has had to fight for everything else...and that includes residuals.
Thanks for the welcome. Although I have done tons of OC work, I somehow feel a lot more at home with VO artists. Either they are a lot less ego driven or it just doesn't show.Do I dare lobby for alla yas to vote for me in the coming SAG election or is that " not the done thing"?
Yes, it's always good to throw a curve ball now and then. So many times you hear a commercial done by someone that didn't at all fit the casting call you saw for it. It's totally a hit and miss sitch, but let me know if it helps.
Have a good July!
Dennis, I saw your comment on FiCore and I want to assure you that no one would know you are core except you and the union. You won't lose anything but the right to vote, and from my decades being full SAG/AFTRA I never thought they paid attention to our votes.
email@example.com is my direct email.
Feel free to ask me about anything.
Hi, Dennis. I read your message regarding ProTools and vista. It's very bad news and I thank you for sharing your frustration. I'm using PT with Windows XP home edition and it works just fine, but I don't know what I'll do when the time comes to upgrade the op.system. Pro Tools is the only software I've learned to use and I am very comfortable with it, but boy, is it ever limiting and rigid. Doesn't support very many different formats, has a bunch of buggy things... wow. I expected much more from the industry standard.
As it is, I have to rely on Goldwave and other free converters to create some of the formats I need for my clients. I feel like I've bought a Bentley! It's too nice to drive for mundane things like going grocery shopping.
