Hey everybody,

I'm sure everyone has run into this at some point or another...

I have a gig tomorrow morning and woke up with a voice changing cold today.

What remedies do you have to get though the gig and play through the pain without the producer going... "Thanks but, you should go home."

Please post your recommendations. I've got 15 hours til gig.

I hope your gig went well, I struggled with the same thing a few months ago and here's what gave me back enough voice for my recording session the next day. Mix 1 tablespoon of raw honey with 4-5 cloved of raw crushed garlic and 1/8 teaspoon of cayenne pepper then eat it. I eat it in very small bits at a time, just some on the tip of the spoon and let it coat my throat. You can also put it on bread or crackers. I also put it on some grilled chicken and it was quite delicious. Anyway, it worked for me!

My pleasure, pal. If it's true that we're all in this thing together, then we have to take care of our own. I've been popping Claratin lately like it's candy (but only once a day, mind you.) Usually I steer clear of OTC decongestants, but sometimes I fall off the wagon. I'll remember about Afrin--could be useful for when the Neti-Pot refuses to work. Thanks back at'cha.

Thanks for that, Andy. I'm a neti fan, but (again at the risk of being disgusting) sometimes, Neti won't make it all the way through.

After this post, I tried some Afrin... Oh my goodness! That stuff WORKS. Even just in the short term to open up your sinus resonators.

Some say it's disgusting, but for the sake of prevention a Neti-Pot/sinus rinse is a trick I keep up my sleeve. At the first sign of something sinus-related coming on, I swear by that. It never hurts, even when you're already sick. Best of luck.

Thanks, Zurek. I'll do just that!

Have tea with honey, and rest your voice. Nothing does a voice better than natural rest.
