Here is some good news and bad news that’s happen to me in the past few weeks.

First, on Thursday Feb. 5, I was let go from my radio job of 3 ½ years. I started at WKKI in Dec. 2005 doing mornings and then moved to middays (10am – 2pm). I was shocked to hear the owner fire me. This recession is hitting everyone. I’m sure it was due in part because I was the last one getting paid salary. Everybody else on the air was getting paid a cheep hourly rate.

Anyway…on Tuesday Feb. 10th I went down to Columbus, OH for an interview with a talent agency. I know agencies don’t take everybody. Only a few were signed that day. I was one of them!!! Yep…I can now say…I have an agent! Heyman Talent. One of the biggest talent agencies in Ohio!

I am mostly going to be doing voice work for them. But since I have a little bit of an acting background...I took some acting classes in Canton, OH, I was in a movie shot in Youngstown, OH, and I’ve been in a few plays...I’m going to try and get work as an actor too. Hey, since I don't have ANY kind of job now I have plenty of time to go off and shot a movie if someone wants my ugly mug in their movie. LOL

Honestly, I'm going to be spending most of my time promoting my voice over / voice acting business. I can't just sit by the phone and wait for my agent to call. You always have to be pro-active in this business.

You know, isn’t it a little weird how I was let go from one job and then I get signed by an agent less then a week later? Like one door closing another door opening kind of thing. Weird how it worked out that way.

Wish me luck!

Frank

Hello Frank,
Sorry to hear about your tough break. I have heard from so many that have a similar story, this recession is the pits! It's hard to leave a workplace you love, but shaking things up might have it's advantages too. You get to go on a new adventure that you may have never considered had you not lost the last job. I am hoping it will be exciting and profitable for you, and lead you to bigger and better things. I will be rooting for you on this end. Congrats on the agent! How has that been working out for you?

Frank,
I'm truly sorry to hear about losing your day gig and thrilled to hear about you getting repped. I, too signed with Heyman Talent in their Louisville office this week and am hoping it will improve my audition flow. I'd love to do some on-camera hosting, but don't have a lot of experience, especially recent stuff.
Hang in there, brother.
Keep us up on your situation and best of luck.
Roger

Congrats! Blow radio off like dust, and keep growing.
