“Well, I knew pretty much right off the bat what I wanted to do” L.J Vox surveyed his surroundings which were ethereal to say the least. “Never, ever did I think I’d be talking to you. Weird”. There was a short pause for reflection. “Voice talent, through and through, that’s me. I got the usual knock backs so got some training from the person who did on-hold for the potato industry. $600 well spent. Of course before I could work I needed to get someone to help me find the real me inside the unreal read so did the 4 month one on one sessions with the guy who coaches the greats, so great he can’t name them, NDA, you understand. I can’t remember if that was before my partner left me and after I lost my day job or the other way around.” A heavy sigh and another gaze around the impressive setting.
“Over the next few years got me more coaching, home studio, subscribed to the - all the work you need for a dollar- sites, blogged, sent out emails, networked, did the convention thing and stayed in LA for a few days to make THE DEMO, it was awesome. The guys in the studio loved me so much they couldn’t talk. I hit all the big agents in LA. I hit all the big agents in Chicago. I hit all the big agents in New York then Texas, London, Paris, Sydney, Basingstoke and Weiser. Feedback said, not quite ready yet, a matter of time I think until they will be ready.”
“Being a Voice Talent really takes over your life. I was auditioning all day every day. Movie Trailers were really my thing, and commercials, and animation characters, and TV station promos and imaging and on-hold, IVR, elearning, corporate, industrials, you know the kind us stuff. Let me tell you for nothing when you’ve got to prepare to audition for that kinda stuff there is no time for regular Joe jobs. It’s an investment in my future career, you get that don’t you? So I need to keep going. Winners never quit and quitters never win, that’s what they say. When I get the first gig then it’s all the way to the top!”
“Look, here’s the deal. If you have a good studio with ISDN, an MKH416 and Source Connect then I’m in.”
“No, sorry. Nothing like that here but you could try the other place” said St Peter as he started to open the Pearly Gates. “It’s your call.”
