Ed McMahon is in Foreclosure because he broke his neck and couldn't work.

It was reported yesterday (June 4) that legendary announcer Ed Mahon's mansion is in foreclosure as he is in arears on his mortgage some $600K because he could not work for a year since he broke his neck.

This raises a question for me as an attorney as to whether he had any type of disability insurance to cover something like this happening, and if he did, if it was adequate. I personally do have disability insurance on myself in case something like this does, god forbid, happen to me. If it can happen to Ed, then it certainly could happen to anyone.

I would love to hear whether any of my fellow voice actors have any form of disability coverage.

I have also started a discussion for this topic in the "ASK A VOICE OVER ATTORNEY" group, which has a few other interesting discussions going on.

Thanks,

I have it ..If I file a claim, The voice is covered for two years, payments stop after that in the event I am healthy and can get a job doing something else. Premium-$40 month..long term and short term.

Mr McMahon has been working longer than I have been alive. It never entered my mind whether or not he had disability insurance, but whether or not he had competent financial guidance. 600K is not a lot of money considering the length and depth of his career and endorsements over the years.
I do not currently have disability insurance, but did at one time and it saved me from a great deal of grief when I was not able to work. Premiums got outrageous, so I dropped it.
