Get Noticed

We all want to succeed in our career’s right? Listening to casting agents, big time voice-guys and gals, getting noticed is not always the way we plan. When lightning strikes will you be ready to impress? The stories from water cooler talk is, at a hotel desk, on a shuttle bus, the plan ride...Or waiting for a cab, a conversation takes place that inevitably Leeds to what you do for a living.

You say, I’m a voiceover talent. Chances are… they will ask if they’ve heard you before. You… Continue

The Levelator — Free Program Helps Make Your VO Recordings Sound Better

If you aren't "Levelating" your spoken recordings, odds are they don't sound as good as they could.

The Levelator is a free, downloadable program for Mac & PC that enhances spoken-word audio. I'm not an engineer, so I can't tell you exactly all the things that it does, but its basic function is to make the levels of a recording even, so that everything is at an appropriate, equal volume.

I tend to put a lot of… Continue

Paying The Price

I had a most interesting day yesterday to go along with several other days of bad car days! I purchased a used car that seemed to just need a few things here and there…but nothing major…well it turns out the starter, the Ac unit, the alternator , the battery, the ignition all needed to be fixed. You see I didn’t use an expert on cars to tell me these things before buying; instead I went on the so called good word of the seller. I watched the mechanic as he fixed my car with grease and sweet all… Continue

Your demos: sucked into cyberspace?

Over the years I have learned that it's always good to look outside of my own profession for inspiration. If you're like me, you're probably running a one-man (or one-woman)-show. We're not only performers; in many case we act as our own agents, coaches, directors, sound engineers, web designers, marketing professionals, bookkeepers.... the list is endless. The joys of being an independent contractor are bountiful, and from time to time slightly overwhelming. Don't you sometimes feel… Continue

Put your heart into it

There is a time for each person to make up their minds whether or not there heart is truly into it! It amazes me how non-challant people can be with their careers, or their very lives. You have heard it said, if you knew you only had 30, or 60 days to live, what would you do?

Most of you reading this have hopefully much more time to live your dreams. Are you putting your heart into voice-overs? Do you want to be good, ok, mediocre? Put your heart into your passion, take the time to… Continue

Can someone be overexposed on networking sites?

Can you be overexposed?

OK…before I even try and continue with my latest blog let’s get the “exposed” joke out the way first…

“Yes, you can be overexposed. But nobody wants to see my hairy naked body”.

Ok…one more….

“Yes, you can be overexposed. Pamela Anderson looks great over exposed!”

Now that we got the stupid jokes of the way, let me continue with what I really meant.

I’m talking about Self Promotion vs. being… Continue

It's not your fault

Apparently, my last blog about the low conversion rate of auditions on pay-to-play sites, made a few folks nervous. Oh, well. Did you take a look at your success rate yet? Are you going to? Some people just prefer to bury their head in the sand. "Auditioning is part of what I do", they say, "and if I start tracking the number of auditions that lead to actual bookings, I'll only get discouraged."

Perhaps it's time for a reality check. Perhaps you'll find out that it's not your fault… Continue

Studio Pics Group

I'm inviting everyone to join the STUDIO PICS...We want to see your space...

Keep the pics medium size for easy loading. Don't worry about your secret mic chain...I've figured out after 11 years in VO that the same mic chain doesn't work for any 2 people.

So messy or neat, join us and show off those studios. We can all get ideas on better ways to make our spaces efficient. Thank you so much.

Half Now, Half On Delivery - a Paypal Solution (part 2 of 3)

This is just a thought here... but since I've been elbow deep in server muck looking for a way to deliver the files to my client in a professional way I got a little epiphany.

Since some of us find it somewhat cumbersome figuring out if a first time client will pay or not we end up with moments of panic and possible seconds long hysteria.

Here is the scenario: You are doing… Continue

Looking More Professional - The Download Area (part 1 of 3)

It was something my boss mentioned that triggered this whole hair pulling experience.

He wanted to know if we could utilize a professional looking section in our website that looked like which provided our affiliates and clients with a section in our website for them to download their files from. Being a little more tech savvy than the average individual I went… Continue

My Video Voice Demo

Jason LeBlanc has really come up with an awesome idea. Video voice demos are a lot of fun to watch and might actually get someone to listen longer than they might normally. He put together one for me and I think he did a wonderful job with it. Here's my video voice demo if you want to have a look. Would love to hear your opinion if you… Continue

Voice-over roulette

roulette Some people can't live with them, and some can't live without them: voice-over websites. Let's be honest: have you entered a co-dependent relationship? How much do you rely on them to get work?

I remember when I first joined a few of these sites. In the beginning, every new job posting seemed to open an exciting window of possibilities. I attacked my auditions with vigor. Every single demo had… Continue
