What is the best vocal mic for on the road

I'm looking for opinions on what is the best vocal mic for when I'm on the road ( hotel room, guest bedroom, etc) I need to be able to record broadcast quality vocals for TV spots 24/7. I've ordered the Harland Hogan Porta booth so that will help. I have heard shotguns are the best but there are always differing opinions. Please post any advice based on experience, cost not an issue.

VO Success!

Hi everyone, I wanted to share my very recent success with VU, with the hopes of inspiring you to always strive to be the best and to never give up. I recently was contacted by a client seeking a character voice for a company mascot. after a few call backs it turned out to be the fox puppet for the Carfax. I was shortlisted to the top three and did not get the gig. Then I received a phone call a few weeks back - they were re-evaluating the talent and i was now down to the top two! To make a… Continue

Just because you have a great voice..

Well... I've always wondered what makes a intelligent voice-over artist. Somebody who can pick up a script, connect with it, and deliver a read that will sound believable. But more importantly, you can not make a solid connection without finding what the "truth" is behind it; in otherwords, what is the writer trying to convey to his/her audience? Just because you have a great voice doesn't always mean you can provide a delivery of what I have mentioned above. There are so many people here who… Continue

Shifting in and out of a read..

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A PROFESSIONAL VOICE OVER ARTIST WHEN.. Your day begins and you are reading emails and downloading copy, ripping faxes off your fax machine, recording, editing, and turning around sessions quickly, not to mention, getting dialed up via the ISDN all day long.

Thank the Universe that you get to do what you love. But never take it for granted. Not even for a minute. Remember that every time you get an audition. Let’s face it, in voice over you love having contract work but… Continue

Green Apple Photo-

I enjoyed voicing this spot.. it seemed that it was a direct respresentation of a new father meeting his child for the first time. Im not a father, as of yet :-), but I can already tell how much one’s life can change suddenly once they bring a child in to this world.

Copy and paste the link above… what do you think?

Are you taking acting classes to become a better Voice Actor? | VOTE FOR KERA O'BRYON

Are you taking acting classes to become a better Voice Actor?

In a great voice over talent you will find a true actor. I have bounced around many acting classes, never to stay, and finally I have decided to take it seriously. In the past 3 months I've had a few call backs, and just recently I was cast as lead role to play a ( TV spokesperson) Police Officer in a 1-800-411-PAIN commercial, but my upcoming trip to… Continue

GKN Weekly Update 7/26/10

Good morning, everyone! I hope your weekend was as fun as mine. Friday night I attended a cancer fundraiser at the Shannon Rose in Clifton which turned into a mini-Applebee's reunion (I worked there for five years). Saturday we celebrated my best friend's 40th birthday at the Greenhouse in Wayne. Sunday I helped my other best friend load in a huge pile of furniture and boxes into her new apartment. Whew! I'm beat but very happy...

Last I narrated the audio book "The Political… Continue

Confirmed: Blonde

And as promised, the middle of the night grumpiness has passed. I awoke and rejoiced to find that someone had tagged one of Voice123 demos (clear! fresh! pleasant!) and then I took a second look at my Voices.com profile only to discover that the most likely reason I didn't have any jobs posted was that somehow I had only checked off the box indicating that I would like to be informed of jobs priced at $10,000 and up.

Took out the checkmark and shazam!… Continue

I'm informing you of a SCAM that I was ALMOST caught up in.

Charles Thamesmead [c.thamesmead@yahoo.com] or

c.thamesmead@london.com is NOT who he says he is.

I quoted, this person, for job on Voices.com (Hybrid Energy Drink) and stipulated that he was to provide 50% of my quote before production begins. A week later I received a check for more than DOUBLE of what I quoted in the first place. After questioning this he told me that the client paid me the ENTIRE amount… Continue

Talking to Myself

I hear voices. I mutter to myself. I'm not sleeping much and holy hell, I've actually been forgetting to eat. (Note to self: cancel Weight-Watchers membership.)

So ... this is what it's like to embark on a new career in voice over.

I'm pretty sure that I'm doing all the things I should do ... got some awesome coaching (by my friend and mentor *** shameless plug alert ---> Keith Alan of 57th Street Media) <--- shameless plug alert *** to bring me up to speed;… Continue

GKN Weekly Update 7/19/10

Good morning on this humid and stormy day! I wasn't supposed to get to this until late tonight, but the studio I'm supposed to go to this morning lost power because of that nasty storm that just passed through. Anyone else having electrical issues?

Okay kids, this one is all about cause and effect. I booked an on-camera commercial last week for Ridge Tire and Auto in South Orange, NJ via my pal Mike Curran of Cablevision.

Could this replace ISDN?

Who will kill the dinosaur, ISDN? (No offense to the voice of Barney, Dean Wendt :) This has been a huge debate since the arrival of Source Connect, Audio TX, Audio Compass and others, but the big ole monster is still there, and not going out without a fight!

I am subscribed to many blogs, and "The Ramblings of Some Audio Guy's"…

Prime Time Promo VO

I just had the opportunity to work with some great folks in the My VO Coach Primetime Promo workshop. My friends Stephanie, Jaye and Lee and online pal and now bricks and mortar friend Barry were in the class. It was a great experience learning with my buddies and taking cues from David Alden who has directed many of the greats in our profession in thousands of promos. Promos are usually produced as a team effort and the feeling of camaraderie and unity of purpose among all participants… Continue
