I'll be hosting a live Video Voiceover Chat
on Saturday (8/1) at 10 a.m. Pacific Time (1:00 p.m. Eastern).
I'll expand on some of the ideas I discuss in my podcast, "The Business of Voiceover."
In that podcast, I say that the artists who succeed on a high level are the ones who see themselves as independent business professionals. I'll share some new thoughts on this topic, and answer your questions about growing your… Continue

What would happen if Funeral Homes advertised the same way? I am thinking it would be something like this: MonsterFuneral.mp3

To promote, of all things, golf reservation system software.
8K, all expenses included, for 2 weeks, in downtown Tokyo, Japan.
And it's even in English, but I wouldn't know much about that, since I live in Texas.
It's a wild world, and one never knows what to expect in this crazy business.
Hope you are all well.

Sorry for the long silence, and thanks to those who reminded me I should log back in and actually check my stuff. Thanks to everyone also who left me comments about the podcast. You know, we lost our engineer a while back; a great guy who did great work and unfortunately decided that the industry wasn't supporting his family. Considering I actually pay out of pocket all the engineering, recording and other production costs of the podcast out of pocket, I've not been able to go out and find… Continue

Seeking large, bright, airy house with 2-car garage for rent in quiet neighborhood. I have a cat (lazy) and a 6' grand piano that needs extra living room space. LOVE older houses and Craftsman-type houses, so if yours was built in the 1920's you have my attention!
Need 2 or more bedrooms -- mostly because anything smaller won't fit the piano and I need one room for a home office. I prefer hardwood floors. Seriously hoping for central air-conditioning (I've had window units for years… Continue

I had the honor of being interviewed by Charlie Vann of KDUX Web Radio, a station that's part of Richland College in Dallas, Texas. We talked about all things voiceover-related.
To listen to Part 1, in which I talk about how I got my start in VO, how I prepare for a role, and some of the special challenges of VO, click the player below.…

Well, as with most voice actors, I'm constantly attempting to improve my demos. There were two spots in my commercial demo I wasn't *entirely* pleased with ... and today, Dave DeAndrea (Thanks, Dave!) helped me update things so that those two spots are gone, and a couple of spots I'm much happier with, are in their place. The cool thing about it is that the two I've added are actual jobs. :) One was for 1800hotels.com , and the other was for a service offering from North State Communications in… Continue

Even though this looks like an excuse for me to brag (placed thrid last week) The M.K.V.W competition is exactly what this industry needs. Professional fun for all and brand building to boot.
That is all.

This was very cool news to receive yesterday ...
We are proud to announce that you are the SECOND PLACE WINNER for MARLA KIRBAN'S VOICEOVER SHUFFLE COMPETITION from Voice Wars on Voiceover Universe in the Promo Category!!!
Particularly nifty (yeah, I know. Who uses that word anymore? ) because I was the only female in the top three. I'm really looking forward to the consultation with Marla. I think that'll be especially… Continue

Well, today, I cried.
Not over any silly loss of a commercial or narrative.
Today, I cried over something much more than that.
My step-dad, who is 93, was diagnosed with liver and pancreatic cancer. Doomsday.
My original father was an asshole and died 15 years ago.
But this guy was different.
He treated my mom like gold in the hand.
So, if you don't hear from me in a few weeks, you'll know the story.
Life is… Continue

I posted this enrty on my VO Meter
blog earlier this month. My readers as well as those on Kevin Delaney's Voiceover Ninja blog are struggling with coming up with an answer to the challenge so I thought I send it out to VU for everyone to take a shot at it before I post the answer...

Tonight, my daughter and I worked on a puzzle. I admit that she did a lot more "working" on the puzzle than I did. She has an extreme amount of patience for puzzles that I simply do not possess. She can look at the box to see what the puzzle should look like, then seemingly go right to the piece or pieces she's looking for and put them together. While she's being very efficient, I'm spending way too much time looking for just that 'one' piece that's going to really get me started. Well, you… Continue
