A Great VO Day for the Tim-Man!

Milestone day for the The Timster!

Today marks the first time that a voice seeker on Voices.com has sent me a personal request to audition ...for a job that had not even been posted. I know better than to get too excited ...It's not as if I have the job yet. I thought the audition went well, but we'll see.

Also, I recorded a piece for Wayne Henderson's Voice Over Journey Podcast today. I had so much fun making this MP3! To kick off the "niche" marketing champaign of… Continue

Blog here? Blog there? Blog everywhere?

I just started trying to update a blog on a regular basis and have been using the Nextcat site to do so? What do you think - keep it there - move it here - or start up my own on my website? Hmmm. It's not all about voiceovers - like right now it's about my trip to New York to help my mom after her knee replacement - and the struggles with understanding how much "help" she is actually going to need after I leave.

And the voiceover news...in between trips to the rehabilitation place… Continue

Ask The Speech Doc: Want to (wanuh) speak naturally? Use reduced forms!

.

You might be wondering what reduced forms are even though we use them every day. According to Jane Morley of the English Language Institute at Ann Arbor, these words make up nearly 60% of the spoken English in daily use. When said in isolation, most of these words have stronger forms but weaker forms are used in the context of a phrase or sentence spoken in the natural rhythm of conversation.

The words we typically “reduce” can be grouped into grammatical categories.… Continue

AH, TO BE A KID IN THE SUMMER AGAIN!

So, I'm sitting on my deck with an ice cold Stella on a beautiful summer night in Minneapolis. I started to reflect upon my childhood and all the fun things we did. Kick the can! Hide and seek! Hell, even lawn jarts! Remember those? Once in a while I think about my childhood friends and what they may be up to these days. What does this have to do with anything? Absolutely nothing. Just thinking out loud :) As the sun starts to dip behind the trees, I begin to appreciate how lucky I really am. I… Continue

I have now completed voice tracks on two Narration projects...

I am currently working two narration projects.

The first is a documentary narration on the grim ecology of the Louisiana Bayous.

I am about halfway through the painstaking narration tracks for this project, working to match my reads to the producer's vision. So far, so good. But pronouncing those Cajun names is an acquired skill. Not exactly like French.

The second project is a narration of a documentary for "Angel Faces", a non-profit organization that "Brings out the inner… Continue

Hi everybody!

I've had a chance to poke around the VO Universe a bit and this seems like a pretty cool place! I want to thank all the members who have left me nice messages welcoming me to your professional-social-networking site thingee. It's great to be here among my own kind!

For 25 years I've been a radio person - but I also spent a few years away from transmitters and request lines working on the 'other side' of the glass as a Producer/Engineer. It's amazing how much our business has changed… Continue

Five Questions for AFTRA National VP Holter Graham about the AFTRA - AMPTP Negotiations

I had a chance to trade some emails with Holter Graham (national AFTRA VP), and he had some very thoughtful answers to my questions regarding the current contract negotiations, AMPTP, and the SAG "Vote No" campaign.

Training - what do YOU expect?

After 13 years of writing and performing on the mic, I will be leading my first official VO artist workshop series beginning this coming Monday. I have a bunch of material and ideas on exactly what I want my students to walk away with at the end of our time together, but I would be VERY curious to get some feedback from VO artists here in VU about the high- and lowlights of any formal training YOU have had, so that I might better prepare my own students for the rigors and fun of this… Continue

Online

Wow, lots and lots of online auditions. No rest for the wicked I guess! My neighbors must think I'm nuts! (Got plans for a booth on the way, should put that to bed.) I'm looking at a couple of new mics, (Sennheiser 416 and Neumann TLM-103), seeking that magic tone!

Best of luck to everyone, book lots of jobs. (Just not the ones I'm up for!;) Happy Fourth!

It's so nice to be with friends

It's the Fourth of July and I'm having my morning coffee. Just joined Voice Over Universe and am beginning to set up my page, etc...but most of all, I'm thinking over a long career as a Writer/Director/Producer and... once again, Radio Babe. So grateful fo it all and so excited about the future. Thanks to those of you who welcomed me when I joined. Let's make beautiful music together!

I'm naming names

There are so many voice actors on this site who have been extremely generous to me.....

So I'm naming names! The people listed below have helped me move my game forward, both personally and professionally Without them, I wouldn't have a career.

Bob Bergen-thanks for the class.... thanks for reccommending me to Bernadette....for the August opportunity....vox on the rox and so much more. You're like a big brother to me in voice acting (even though you look like a younger… Continue

Week of July 1-6, 2008

Well here is my first ever blog of anything. First off let me tell any who read this that I detest the word blog. It's just so...whatever, I just hate it. So let me blog on. Sitting here in my studio writing this I am thinking about this last week and my joining the group here at Voiceover Universe. I am humbled that I have put myself in the midst of so many friends and fantastic voices. I'm not sure I even deserve a spot in amongst the tall trees of voicedom. Well thanks anyway for letting… Continue
