Adobe Audition Replaces Soundbooth

I recently previewed a beta version of Adobe Audition for the Mac.  What I didn’t know, at the time, was that Audition was replacing Soundbooth, a digital audio workstation long used by voice actors.  And while that might be disappointing to Soundbooth fans, Audition does pack quite a punch.

Some of the features Audition has that Soundbooth didn’t have are: project exchange with third-party DAWs, native 5.1 multichannel support, more native audio effects and new royalty-free…

The magic behind the mic

One of the nicest complements I think I receive as a voice talent is, is that’s you? It really never gets old when hearing it! because it is a small reminder of the magic behind the mic. I will never forget when I was assisting a studio engineer with a project while a short bald headed man walked into the studio and reminded us of his session…. now you would never believe what happened to me when I looked up and heard this guys’ voice! My jaw dropped and I just…

You Don't Always Have To Fly Solo!!

Two weeks ago, on a Saturday I received an email from a casting director in Los Angeles to audition for an animated series. He asked if I could have it to him by Monday, and of course I said "yes!".  As soon as I responded to that email, I sent another out to my friend Seth Podowitz. Seth was the booth director at AVO talent for five years and now offers his expertise as a private voice over coach. One of his specialties is audition…

Creating Your Own In-Home Recording Studio Reviewed | by Heidi Schooler

One of the beauties of voiceover work is that you can do it at home by creating your own mini-studio. But you've got to find the proper equipment. That takes research. To help you assemble your own VO nook, I consulted with two experts in the field,George Whittam and John Taylor.… Continue

‎"Sitting in VO Booth" can be as deadly as smoking!! - What are you doing to make up from sitting hours at the desk?

Smoking cigarettes is the cause of so much preventable, deadly disease. But now new research shows sitting for long stretches of time may be just as dangerous.

“Smoking certainly is a major cardiovascular risk factor and sitting can be equivalent in many cases,” explained Dr. David Coven.

My thoughts on “Get out of your Head?”

In my not so vast years of voice over experience, I have come to hold a few things true when I hear the phrase, “Get out of your head.” In short, I now believe the previous statement captures the following:

  • Learn to be whom and what the script calls for.
  • Learn to feel, see, and understand more than the direction and the printed word to bring forth the intent of the message.
  • Put self aside and consider others (the client) more important.
  • Put away…

Simple Two Step Process for Losing Clients

  • Is your customer list so huge that you’re overwhelmed by the sheer number of contacts?
  • Are repeat clients bothersome and too much of a maintenance nightmare for you to imagine?
  • Do you enjoy the challenge of searching for new clients?

If you answered yes to any of these, the following two-step process will help you reduce the number of clients that you’re currently working with.

Step 1 – Don’t Say Thank You

"Mr. Opportunity" Knockin'

After ten years riding the voice over crazy train I still take classes regularly, and work closely and consistently with a handful of professional coaches. Recently I decided to reach out to Rob Paulsen in hopes that I might have the opportunity to learn from him as well. Rob has been a professional voice over actor since the 1980's having voiced over 2,000 1/2 hour animated episodes to his credit. In 1999 Rob won the daytime Emmy award…
