I spent all day getting my...Closet ready to record in. Yes all day! Where does all this crap come from. Now I have my little space among shirt and pants and shoes to record. My little sanctuary. Now to find a way to put a mic in.
Ya it's heaven.

I recently caught an interview on NPR with a guy from United Artists' onine division. He was talking about the potential billion-dollar future of online creative and viral video content. UTAOnline.com represents that LonelyGirl15 gal, the original "Obama Girl" people, and several other artists and small companies who manufacture successful web content with a strong creative drive.
While UTAOnline admits that a significant source of revenue is yet to be found in these, according to… Continue

A patron at the library I work at gave me an incredible amount of information for companies in the area, and today I find that I have plenty of time to make the calls.
For some reason, I am super nervous to make these calls, but I resist procrastination. I'm not sure what to think about the first call. It was so incredibly quick that there was no way to make an impression, but I followed the protocol, was confident, and he gave me the information to mail my demo. He didn't give me a… Continue

On VOX Daily, I'm taking an informal poll on what the tea preferences are for voice actors and voice professionals.
Have you got your fave tea up on the board yet?
If not, read some tea talk and shake some leaves here:
Grab a Cuppa at VOX Daily - Tea's On!
Looking forward to hearing from you.

I'm really delighted that Stephanie was able to include my first business basics podcast in the Voice Over Experts series.
I hope it is of interest to some of you ...
Unfortuntely the 'add link' doesn't seem to be working!

Well, it took longer than I expected (a funeral and TV ratings kinda got in the way), but my little survey on what voice-actors charge for their talents is now done, and you can download your own copy of this MS Word.doc HERE
Names have been deleted to protect the innocent. You'll find a little bit of everything here...but overall, something for everybody to learn.
Thanks for of you who helped… Continue

You may have heard the news in recent weeks about Grand Theft Auto IV's lead voice actor Michael Hollick's interview in the New York Times and how he feels about the unpaid use of his voice in online promos.
Yes, New Media strikes again!
I wrote about it here on VOX Daily "Grand Theft Audio
At any rate, what do you think about the issue?
Looking forward to hearing your… Continue

It seems like you can't pick up a newspaper or a magazine without reading about the lagging economy. I was just curious if it has hurt anyone's business? It may seem like a silly question but I haven't seen much of a slow down in my world other than clients taking longer than usual to pay invoices. I am curious to hear your thoughts. For a lot of us who are doing well at this for a living, could you imagine the prosperity in a booming marketplace?

As we all do, I struggle from time to time and wonder: What is it that is keeping me from getting over the hump? I am a constant study and I look and listen with every piece of advice I get. I know that having "the voice" is just not enough. So, with "the voice" and some experience, it is NOW time for the next step. Acting and Improv! Beginning next week, I will be doing one on one acting and improv methods and some basics. I will be taking classes on at least two nights a week, for a couple… Continue

One morning when I was living in Colorado Springs, Peak 95.1's morning show had asked listeners to call in with their best impressions of Arnold Schwarzenegger. (At the time, Arnold was the newly elected Governator of CA). They had listeners call in to vote for the best one, and I won the contest, which I was not expecting really, since I hadn't done impressions of him that often. I've heard better Arnold impressions, but I won partly because what I came up with was pretty funny, so a…

The process of self marketing has proven to be quite the challenge and often times my feelings fluctuate several times a day. The journey has been a complete roller coaster thus far, and sometimes I feel like I haven't come close to doing enough. I don't think that feeling is going to change for a while. One minute I've made a great contact, and I am on top of the world. The next minute I feel like I am in the same place I've always been in. Concentrating too much on the end result will do… Continue

As I sit here at 2 am I wonder why I'm not sleeping yet. Having never been so busy in my life, I enjoy a few quiet moments searching around on this site and appreciating others in this industry that are also happy and successful doing what they do. Voice-overs really are a wonderful career. I look back on the day I decided this was a true passion for me. It's so exciting to see all of the opportunities out there every day - new clients, new adventures, plenty of new words to learn how to say!… Continue

Have you ever heard a character with extremely limited dialog?
I'm talking one or two words, max.
And yet, through the magic of the human voice and emotion, they are able to voice a fully formed interactive character.
Examples you say?
On "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends" there is a character named "CoCo" (voiced by Candi Milo), and all of her dialog is "Co Co".
Or on "Chowder" there is a charcter named "Shnitzel" (voiced by John DiMaggio) who only… Continue

Instead of looking for the "crystal skull", Indy and his less than amusing entourage should have been looking for a script. 19 years for this? There are some fun chase sequences in "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" but the story is a confusing mess and there is no chemistry between characters who really weren't all that interesting to begin with. I am also one who believes that Indy works better alone or maybe even with one sidekick. Not three. There are moments in this movie… Continue

I'm new to this whole blogging thing but I thought I'd give it a whirl. Just a shout out to the lovely ladies of voice over that I lunched with today. It certainly was a pleasure getting together and talking about the business and life and whatnot. We definitely need to do it more often. Until then we can use this place to discuss things. It will be our digital mimosa. So let's chat about voice over related things. I wish I had a topic to launch right now but my thoughts are unfortunately… Continue

Hello from Des Moines! City of the screaming teenage soccer girls from hell! At least that's how it feels in the hotel that I am in. Maybe I am getting old but these gals have been running up and down the halls of the hotel, yelling and screaming for hours. Unless I purchase about $10,000 worth of auralex, I don't think I can get any recording done. Please send help or at last a bottle of Captain Morgan. Ha!
