I WORK IN THE VOICE OVER INDUSTRY AS A(N)
Voice Actor, Copy Writer, Voiceover Coach
HERE'S A LITTLE ABOUT ME AND MY VOICE OVER EXPERIENCE
America’s most recognizable female voice announcer, Randy Thomas has been winning accolades and opening doors for female voice artists for nearly 15 years. With over 20 years of experience as a radio personality in Detroit, New York, Miami, and Los Angeles, Randy has gone on to achieve her dreams as a voice-over artist.

She was the first woman to announce the Academy Awards, the Miss America Pageant, the Tony Awards, the Screen Actors Guild Awards, and, in 2004, became the first woman to announce the National Democratic Convention in Boston, Massachusetts. She has announced the Oscars seven times and is the first person ever to announce The Oscars, The Tonys, and The Emmys all in the same year.

Randy is currently the voice of CBS Television Distribution's “Entertainment Tonight” and “The Insider,” as well as the voice for Clear Channel radio stations across the country, including WASH FM Washington, DC. She is well known as the voice of Hooked on Phonics, memorably intoning the line “Call 1-800-ABC-DEFG.”

Also, Randy recently co-authored a book entitled, “Voice for Hire: Launch and Maintain a Lucrative Career in Voice-Overs” with her friend and voice over talent, Peter Rofé. The book is in bookstores now! To get on Randy and Peter Rofe's book tour and workshop mailing list please register at http://www.VoiceForHireBook.net.

The Care and Feeding of Your Voice

In the voice over business, the voice comes first. When you have the luxury of numerous takes, a bit of mouth noise or worse, a sore throat, can take you out of the game. To that end, I would love to share with you some tips based on some of things that have helped me over the years.

Last spring I got really sick. So sick that I thought to myself that “this is why elderly people die from the flu.” I realized that this was the sickest I had been in eight years.

In my effort to understand how I… Continue

Hi Randy. It's nice to get to know you. I wish I could offer you some new tips on mouth noise, other than the typical advice of remaining hydrated, eating green apples and avoiding dairy products. I am going to look into the speech pathology literature to see if I can find any prior references that might be relevant. If I find anything, I will let you know!

Thank you so much Randy for your reply. In my teaching, I always speak of you and the students usually know of you or at least, your voice! You are an inspiration to them. Yes, I do indeed hope our paths cross and I shall be buying your book in the bookstore the moment I can. Blessings. Bettye

Because I know from your postings that you are "big" on vocal health as am I (doctoral work in speech science etc too) hope you'll recommend my series of vocal health podcasts, ten, which John Florian and I are releasing as a downloadable audio off the VoiceoverXtra site and also as an audio book for purchase in the near future as soon as packaging is complete. So many people just don't know the fragility of the vocal mechanism and it's our livlihood, our instrument! As a singer, I built up the stamina to sing in the studios long hours and do vo work too..sometimes appearing in a club at night with my jazz group. That takes healthy voice and stamina. I appreciate your also stressing vocal health to people online and to your students and clients. So many coaches don't touch on that enough...

Hi Randy!

I wish you the best with your book. I plan to get a copy and see what neat insights you Peter have to offer. I see you are based in Florida. If you ever need celebrity character voices for some of your productions, let me know. I too am based in Florida, Orlando, and I would love to work with you. Like most here, I have a home studio too.

Best regards,
