HERE'S A LITTLE ABOUT ME AND MY VOICE OVER EXPERIENCE
I have been a voice actor for more than 15 years and if i had a specialty, it would be narrations. If I am not doing voice overs, I am teaching the art of voice over with "Such A Voice". In my spare time, which is rare, I am walking my dog, grilling, playing softball or tennis, singing in a Johnny Cash tribute band, doing a voice over podcast with Trish Basanyi or spending way too much time on networking sites!

Removing the Risk!

Risk is inherent in progress and growth and is an integral component of doing business. Companies take risks, calculated risks, investing considerable time and money developing the products and services they offer and bringing them to the market. As voice talents, we are sometimes part of the product (narration, animation, video games), part of the service (telephony, p.a. announcements), or part of the promotion of the product or service (commercials, radio imaging). Regardless of our role, wha… Continue

Bringing Your A-Game

You are your business. No you, no business. So it makes perfect sense that taking care of you must be a top priority. Yet amidst the to do lists, the daily challenges of running a business, putting out fires, auditioning, recording spots, and a sundry of life’s little curve balls thrown our way, it’s easy to get lost in the mix and slip out of the running. It’s easy to become last on our priority list.

Last place. Nobody likes last place! We dread it. It’s what we strive to avoid. Yet if we are… Continue

Getting it Right

Management guru Peter Drucker says, “Efficiency is doing things right; effectiveness is doing the right things.” Efficiency and effectiveness are paramount to voice over talents and both are dependent upon daily habits. You know, those little things that can make us or break us?

Here are some success habits that I came up with that I work on daily that may be useful to you:

•The habit of practice, practice, practice! Even if you don’t hit perfect, you can’t grow without it! All successf… Continue

The Value Of The Extra Mile

The extra mile is a mark of excellence! It discloses your level of dedication, your determination to earn repeat business, and your willingness to do whatever it takes to do it right. It’s a powerful habit and a point of competitive advantage. It’s the difference between waiting to hear back on the audition to see if you got the gig or receiving unsolicited referrals from people who believe so much in the quality and professionalism of your work that they will put their reputation on the line ju… Continue

Why Voice Over Training?

People ask me all the time, “How do I get started in voice overs?” Great question! Great person to ask too as I’ve been actively involved in this industry for over 20 years as a voice talent, producer, and after significant experience, as a coach. So they ask this question with eager anticipation, awaiting the answer they want to hear! I am not a Magic 8 Ball! I am a voice over professional, so I give them the honest answer, the r… Continue

Hi Terry,
I just viewed your video about auditioning on voices.com. Sending in 3 takes is something I never thought of, thanks. I have 2 questions for you: When you say send in a CLEAN recording, do you mean only mean free of pops, clicks, breaths, etc ... or do you also mean free of any processing, compression, eq, and such?
Also, I haven't been adding my quote to the body of my letter to the voice seeker, do you think that's really necessary to do?
A very helpful video!
Thanks again,
Dan

Hey Terry! I read where you bought a Neumann, but were kind of missing your KSM 27, which is what I use. Can I ask you a few questions about using the KSM 27? What is your technique for using this mic? How far are you from the mic? Is it tilted up or down? Do you speak into it off axis? What sort of pop filter do you use? I like the mic, but I have trouble with my technique. Also, do you run it through the DBX 286A?

Thanks, man!!

Hey Terry! Just wanted to say thanks for the fun that I've had with you and Trish on the podcasts!
You were the first VO podcast that I ever found on iTunes. Keep on doing what you do so well. Yes, I'm a newbie.
