We all have a "stage name"....fancy finding yours?

Posted on September 17, 2010 at 4:00am 3 Comments

Reading a recent ramble from Stephanie posted on VOX Daily, prompted me to share with you the simple technique in finding your "stage name". If you are lumbered with John smith or Jane Brown ( no offence if you happen to be blessed with either of theses names) You might like to try this little exercise in generating a more adventurous alternative name!

Stand by to be shocked, surprised or having your funnybone activated!

Dead-pan delivery!

I recently recorded a VO for a Coffin & Casket manufacturer, A pretty sombre subject I must admit.Having done the deed, I sent the file off to the producer for loading it onto the Web Presentation. After a short while. the producer replied with these words: "we love what you've done here, but can you give it a bit more oomph! The presentation is intended for for suppliers, NOT END USERS!"

How we laughed!

As Christmas approaches, corporate events are in full swing!. When I'n not operating a TV camera on these exhausting events, VO work I have to say is increasing nicely now.

At a conference for "Unite", UK's 2nd biggest union conference, I was shacked up in the Hilton Hotel in Brighton for a week of motions, debates, hecklers & union activists. After the initial 3 camera rig it was a case of being perched on a stool at the back of the auditorium for 10 hrs at a time, and being kept to a… Continue

"The price is Right" at ASDA...hijacking the microphone!

Posted on August 11, 2008 at 5:47am 5 Comments

This weekend, I happened to pop into my local ASDA supermarket for some much needed essential provisions (Pinot Grigio and chianti!).....on entering the store The "Meeter and greeter" was in full flight rattling through her list of drastically reduced items in the store. She had to pause for a moment to attend to a customer query. Just before launching into the remaining items on her script she said to me, "how do you pronounce this"?........"WORCESTER sauce, as in the Town" I said. ....."would… Continue

Have microphone,.......will travel!

So, Annual Vacation (or Holiday) to us UK folk, comming up. Flying off to Malaga. Now the question is, do I take my work with me? I do have a portable sound kit I use when I am working away and I usually manage to make a half decent voice booth from the contents of the hotel room. ....and this doesent mean sticking my head in a gutted mini-bar! although it has come close! I have actually seen in one of the big Pet hyper-market type places a kind of Cat basket, totally enclosed, well padded too!… Continue
