"Personality and confidence. Both of those will overcome any self critical thinking. If the talent is confident, they are probably at ease and will deliver a good performance with their own personality showing through."

Directing- Setting talent at ease behind the mic?

Hi there allYesterday I had to direct two separate sessions of voice artists narrating for my new audio book company here in South Africa. The first VO talent was quite an established TV soap actor, the second a young up and coming actress. The first session went achingly slow ,with the talent repeatedly correcting himself mid-sentence and generally being quite nervous. I could see he had done his preparations but still he couldn't get through a paragraph without wanting to redo some bit,…See More

Directing- Setting talent at ease behind the mic?

Hi there all

Yesterday I had to direct two separate sessions of voice artists narrating for my new audio book company here in South Africa.

The first session went achingly slow ,with the talent repeatedly correcting himself mid-sentence and generally being quite nervous. I could see he had done his preparations but still he couldn't get through a paragraph… Continue

Hi Marinda,
I often to things "on spec" for selected clients - it usually is an investment for the future. Some pay off, some don't. That's the beauty of having a studio at home. I can help wherever possible without incurring too much cost. Let me know if I can help. It will be my pleasure.

Hi Marinda,
Welcome to VU! Weird that we have to "travel" halfway across the planet to meet someone who lives 60k's away! As far as I know, there are now 3 "Sarf Afrikans" on VU. I often have cllients asking me if I know any female voicers and, because I mostly work alone from my home studio, I always refer them to Agents. In fact, the latest request was 2 weeks ago. In future, I will direct them to your website... Enjoy VU - it is a brilliant meeting place with great people! Regards, Leon.
