Voice Actor
I started in radio and moved into voice overs while gradually phasing out my on air gig. My first big break was after moving to Los Angeles in the early 80's and voicing the trailers for early teen movies such as Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Porkys and others. The huge break happened 20 years ago this August when a little upstart network called, Fox hired me as their promo voice. Since then, I've primarily worked in promo for Fox, CBS, NBC and ABC. I voice syndication packages for network shows going into reruns and first run syndication as well. I'm proud to be a part of some pretty cool Live TV events like the Emmys and Grammys and I work as an in-show announcer for programs like Deal or No Deal, Extreme Makeover Home Edition and so on. I also am the image voice for local radio and TV stations around the country. All of that takes up about an hour a day. So, pretty much I'm bored the rest of the day and that's why Rick said why don't you start "Ask Joe."
Thank you Steve Stone for creating an incredible header for my page!

When I first started to get some "big time" voice over work in Los Angeles, it was 1982. I had stumbled into a niche, being cast as a voice on movie trailers and commercials for teen movies...Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Porky's, Bachelor Party, All the Right Moves and several others. During the early 80's, I did a lot of this work at a studio called Prism Recording on North Seward in Hollywood. It was in fact a little "house" set back behind a front building on the street, that had been… Continue

Hi, Joe! Glad you caught your cameo in my video :) Again, it was nice meeting you at VOICE. I'm moving to LA in June!! I want to voice cartoons is why. I'm also interested in Promos, so if you ever have something for beginners, I'd love to hear about it. You're an inspiration.

Happy New Year Joe!

Helene Weinberg here- (voice impressionist from VOICE 2008, VOICE 2010)

I just caught your video on VU and wish you success on America's Next Voice.

If you and Randy are still searching for candidates and feel that a female Impressionist would be a good part of the mix, I would love to be considered.

All the best, Joe!

Joe, how cool it was for you & Randy to get up so early and be on the radio show and extend a valuable offer to Ted Williams, the guy with an incredible voice.  I won't call him homeless, because I'm sure that he will not be that any longer after the viral effect of YouTube.

Hi Joe! I was in the lucky audience at That's Voiceover!; I borrowed a sec to thank you for your Ask Joes... Which was very cosmic!

From chatting with other fantastic industry folks afterward I booked my first big network promo! Thing is, it was also my first promo EVER.

BUT - I'd seen that wonderful video of you doing a promo session, so I basically focused on channelling you. Trying to get it all precisely in time, with the SFX holes all rhythmically perfect - I had a sense of what it might be like to do at a pro level thanks to you. I think I even borrowed your hand gestures.

So if you happen to watch ABC Family today (Monday), and you catch a cooking-themed promo for AFV, that's me doing my best Joe.

Thank you!
