I WORK IN THE VOICE OVER INDUSTRY AS A(N)
Voice Actor
HERE'S A LITTLE ABOUT ME AND MY VOICE OVER EXPERIENCE
I started making funny voices and sounds when I was just a kid ... and never stopped. Booked my first radio promo when I was 17.
RECENTLY BOOKED PROJECTS
Most recently I appeared as Mario, on MNTV's Under One Roof starring William 'Flavor Flav' Drayton. I'm also currently featured as Cardinal Hernandez in Kingdoms of Grace, an action filled live action/animated hybrid program in the graphic novel style, that can be seen on the Space Channel and at www.kingdomsofgrace.com. My steady work consists mostly of doing commercial voices for TV and radio spots.
LANGUAGES
English and Spanish
VOICE DESCRIPTION
A touch of class, with a sense of humor. Basically your well educated 'guy next door' - a voice that's rich with confidence, and still a tad on the fun side.
DIALECTS, Character voices and vocal impressions
Standard North American English, U.S. Southern, New York, New England, British, Scottish, Spanish, French, Russian, German, Italian and Yiddish. I've studied accents and dialects nearly my entire life and they are my most frequently requested specialty.
VOICES I AM ABLE TO PERFORM
Senior Male, Middle Age Male, Young Adult Male, Teenage Boy, Child Male, Baby
AUDIO DELIVERY METHOD
Source Connect, FTP, AIF, MP3, WAV
EQUIPMENT
I have a professional Pro Tools studio, using a shock mounted Neumann TLM 103 mic running through a Focusrite TrakMaster Pro preamp/compressor and Mbox 2 Pro into a Mac Pro workstation.

I can deliver files via FTP, YouSendIt, Source Connect, or CD by overnight or snail mail.

Eric:

Thank you for sharing your experiences with Pro Tools Plug-ins for VO. You are spot on about Time Shift. I recently used the Time Shift to tweak a track to get it under 30 sec by 1.5 sec and it was a life saver. I'll need to experiment with the Pitch Shift. Still the best processing is no processing and starting with a great track recording.

Best,

Al

Hi Al, thanks.

I don't use Normalize now nearly as much as I used to, in fact it's very rare. I find that if I have my levels dialed in correctly on the front end it's much a cleaner sound than using the plug-in. However, for really tight tweaks to a commercial script that's running "almost" but not quite perfectly to time, I find Time Shift invaluable. With shifts of up to between 5% and 8% there are no discernible artifacts in my recordings, though once it gets up to 10% or more I find it's pretty useless. Likewise, Pitch Shift is awesome for making small tweaks to character voices that help to enhance their differentiation form my normal voice, but as with Time Shift, only within relatively small tolerances - 1 to 2 semitones at the most. They're good tweaks, but certainly no substitute good front-end performance and mic technique.

Cheers,
Eric

Eric: Thought it would be interesting to collect the top recommended Pro Tools plug-ins used by voiceover home studio users. My list would include: BNR, Normalize, and EQ 3. When you are putting your money where your mouth is, what plug-ins add real value? Share and enjoy! Al
