Sometimes it seems there are more teachers, mentors and coaches than there are voice talent! *hehehe*
JoeC has given an endorsement of the site on their webpage. Given his credibility in this community it's at least a reason to give that service a closer look, but do look very carefully.
With few exceptions, the people who achieve a good level of success as a V/O do it by: mastering their craft, finding an open door to sneak into the business when no one's watching, then effectively marketing relentlessly and never giving up. The folks who do that eventually make their own luck.
There are a few people who know enough to save you a small to moderate amount of blood, sweat and tears, but not nearly as many who have enough money to advertise.
Oh Steve, You are a wealth of information. You really just confirmed my feelings. I was just curious to see if anybody knew anything about the site. Yes I do understand that much of the time there is always someone trying to make a buck and whether or not they are what they say they are will remain to be seen.
In your comments you nailed down what I have been trying to do all along so I think for the most part I will just keep riden this train. At least I "think" I know where I'm going. I know where I would like to end up.
Karen, I surely hope my comments were not a death knell on your prospects for considering them.
Perhaps I should add that I seek out people I believe can really help me. Just after I commented here I purchased Don Morrow's in home training course (Eureka, Montana is a long way from Danbury, Connecticut). I just meant to say that you need to do business with the best and in most cases that requires careful consideration. Even though Don Morrow is a recognized master in our industry it took me a while to feel confident that I could utilize what he has to offer me.
No, you just confirmed what I was thinking. It takes me a while as well. I'm very careful in how I part with my money. I have to "KNOW" it will be worth it.
I just wondered if anybody had had an expereince with this online company and if it was good, neutral or bad. That's really all that I was wondering about.
The site just launched and to be honest I don't see a lot of solid content yet in the way of VO career assistance, just solicitations for membership and advertisement for services. But like Steve said, they've got a thumbs-up from Joe.
I'll add that the site was created by the same people who founded http://www.voicehunter.com and I met the owners (Gabrielle and Doc) of that site at a workshop by Bob Bergen. And Bob knew them as well. That's enough of a referral for me.
I submitted for membership in their "VO Community" with a query to get more details on what they have planned for the site. I'll provide an update here upon their reply.
