I do most of my work with audition on an XP machine, but I also have it on my Vista laptop for those rare times when I have to edit when outside of the studio and I've never had any conflicts with Audition and Vista.

Im thinking about upgrading to a newer computer (PC). I've heard a rumor that Adobe Audition does not work on Windows Vista (Im using XP now). Any truth to that? Any Audition users out there that are using AA on Vista?

Thanks! BW

Jeff, I would say Adobe Audition has an easy learning curve. I wouldn't suggest Pro-Tools unless you are seriously into doing imaging along with your voice work. There are many similiar products out there like Audition that may suit your needs. Thanks for the conversation we had earlier. I may be picking up a station thanks to you.

Brain:
I very much agree. Its all a matter of each persons taste and each script has its own different production values. At least i'm not producing anything anymore ( of which i'm sure many clients are happy with LOL! ) got i just over did everything..more or less my deal was the more ear cany i could squeeze into something the happier i was but i didnt realize that to much can actually kill a spot.
Its all good though and like you i appreciate a good solid produced spot. Anytime i hear something that i voiced i am just amazed at the work i know goes on and i give kudos to everyone out there that produces as its very much an art and i love it.
Creative minds do think alike...( better then therapy LOL ! )

Erick, my wife totally understands when I pull out things I hear on a spot or, more often, when I hear something that should have been fixed and wasn't...but they aired it anyway! I'm a video editing enthusiast as well, so when I see bad cuts etc, it gets to me...however, when I see super cool graphics packages, I think to myself "nobody knows how much time that took to complete"!

Well, at least in here we can appreciate the creative mind!

Yeah. its cool to have the zings and zaps and ear candy..but to much can just drown out the spot and i didnt get it till just before i left the company, then started producing myself and toned it back. Though now all i do is voice overs, i still enjoy listening to other peoples spots that they produce or stuff that i voiced and people produce because everyone has there own spin , sound or touch to something and i'm always amazed when i hear a good spot or just any spot.
I love to pick out the production. My wife laughs because she admits that only an artist can appreciate another artists work. And i like to look at it that way. Each spot is a painting and i love to enjoy and soak it all in.
So yeah..it would be boring to just put a music bed over a club spot or hyper spot, but it doesnt hurt to put the ear candy in and the reverb..thats what gets the attention the spot needs. But it also depends on the spot as well.
Either way, i love to hear what people do as i sort of miss doing it.
And i also give my hats off to all the talented people that not only produce what i voice, but what other people voice and since i've been there..i get it and appreciate every one of them !
Produce on !!

Well, I'm just stepping in after a few weeks busy at my new job, and it looks like I came in to this topic at the right time. Like Erick wayyy to much time on the spots, and Kipp says something about production value. COOOLLL, I'll just sit back a min. and take in the discussion.
TNX guys.

I would like to sit with a strong producer for about a day and absorb. It would help to provide a reference for my work. I could easily be thinking I doing reasonably well, when in reality I'm making the most elementary mistakes possible...

On a fun note: I just entered a contest using the voice of Dave Foxx from Z100 and I'm interested in hearing the comments when it's evaluated.

I'm new here but i wanted to add my experience. I worked in seattle for a large station cluster and everyone kept giving me all the club spots to voice and produce and i could not figure out why..i wanted to do other spots and after some time i figured out that i was the only guy in the production pool that over produced everything. I didnt get it but the clients thought that all my work was the best they had heard..but i what i didnt know was that i was spending wayyyyy to much time on one club spot and with 4 each day, that would eat up hours of studio time. Turned out i really just needed to put a little snaz and pop here and there and leave it at that as i would have to out do myself every time after that as the client wanted more each time so i sort of dug myself a production hole that was hard to climb out of. I learned..and got teased by my peers as the "pitch man" and such.
Its funny to see that now but man if i would have known that then...i wouldnt have been in the studio till 12pm each night. But i admit..I really loved what i was doing..voicing and producing was like the best drug around.
It is true..its about the message..not the pops and clicks and reverb and echo effect ect. :)
I do miss the radio days though..good times !
Erick
