Hi Dan, thanks for the invite, and that file share system sounds great!

Hey!

Wanted to give everybody a heads up on a new tool I found today. I have an ftp site that I use to transfer large files to clients, but I needed to have some other VOs sent to me for a project that I'm coordinating. I'm not set up to have other folks load to my ftp site. Jared, my genius engineer turned me on to FileDropper.

If you need to send or receive large files, you can do so for free, up to 5 gigs - although they have a subscription service also for as little a a dollar a month.

Check 'em out. It's pretty smoooooth: www.filedropper.com

Go get 'em!

Mike, I think that's pretty standard procedure. Radio and TV stations pay annuals to ASCAP and BMI (and some to SESAC) to cover off on these sort of issues. Where this is going to become an issue will be in online broadcasting.

Has anyone ever heard of this??

I was going over MusicBakery.com's FAQ page and I found these questions and answers:

Q: "Recently we purchased some of your royalty-free music for a video project. What are our obligations regarding the closing credits? Is it obligatory for us to credit Music Bakery? Is it necessary to list the songs' title(s)?"

A: We require credits on any production which is to be broadcasted. Each credit should have the following format: "TITLE" by Jack Waldenmaier, Music Bakery Publishing (BMI).

Q: "How does royalty-free work? reporting? cost?"

A: Simply purchase our CDs or downloads, and use the music in any of your productions forever. If the music is broadcasted, remember to file your cue sheets with BMI as always.

Worse marketing strategy I have done in the past is sent very nice expensive post cards to prospective clients. Best strategy is to have an excellent agent in the local area and network with other male and female VO talent with whom we can work as a team and provide VO services in our native language (Spanish).

Dan, that's great! This is a great group. I'm surprised there aren't more!

David, I'd have to say Voice-Over for Animation by Jeanne Ann Wright; it covered a lot of ground, and yet was incredibly specific, detailed, and informative. Also, I can't think of another book like it--it fit the gap like a glove on a hand. Looking forward to your post.

I'm putting together something similar, myself! It will be a page full of reviews of books, coaches, websites, etc. I'll post a link when it's a little further along.
