Hey all, I am looking at netbooks for my traveling studio. The newer ones have 260 gigs of HD and I'd like to be able to use a USB CDrom to load some programs on it. I heard from a friend of mine that Windows 7 is causing noise in the audio chain that is recording into the mix. Has anyone else experienced this? I would rather buy an XP based netbook if this is the case.

Hi everyone,
I am still a VO student but a serious enough student to have attended this last Voice 2010 conference. I had the opportunity to sit down and try the audio-technica microphones at the conference. My voice sounded great on the most expensive ribbon mike (of course) but I was pleasantly surprized to find that the 20\20 USB mike they had at about $100.00 sounded better than the mid-priced $500.00 mike, at least to my ear. I currently have a Snowball that I use at home for practice and I have to push harder vocally than I would like. I really liked the 20\20 but I am also hearing good things about the Yeti USB mike made by Blue. They both cost about $100.00 and I am interested in anyones opinion on these mikes for voiceover also in the meantime before I get a new mike is there something I could do with my Snowball? I use audacity and I could swear that at one of the seminars I went to There was some sort of adjustment that was made to the audacity (set it to normal??) when they mentioned using a Snowball with it. Could that perhaps be a way to adjust the lack of sensitivity problem my Snowball has? If you know this adjustment in audacity if you could please give me step by step simple insturctions because I'm a technological idiot! Thanks so much

Hi everyone. Happy New Year/ of the Tiger.
Thanks for the TLM 102 info, John. I've yet to hear any female voices in any of the samples -- and I have been scouting for them as well. Now that it is around I'm going to go try it out and I'm happy to report back. But like the times I have used the TLM 103, it was in a commercial studio with a skilled engineer so of course it sounded great. Would my Edirol UA 25EX be enough to do a 103 or 102 justice? And this is in a non-isolation booth home studio space. I would love to also hear what you all think about other mics (used or new) for a lower range female voice in a home studio environment. What are all you women using? Thanks.

Hi Gang,
Great to have so many resources on one site! Gear Heads seems like the group I've been searching for, to bounce opinions and recommendations on audio gear. There's so much stuff out there, and I've never felt comfortable asking a sales rep for his opinion on a piece of equipment. I'd rather get advice from real users, like you!
That said, I'm thinking of getting a Rode NTG-3 Mic. Heard that it rivals the Senn 416 on many levels. And it's considerably less expensive.
I'd love to hear from NTG3 owners and especially from people who've had the chance to compare the Rode to the Sennheiser MKH416. My use will be in my home studio for VOs.
Thanks!

Hi Everyone,
I got a nice email from Christopher Currier that contains some links to information about the TLM 102. Also there are links to reviews and audio samples below.

I saw where the TLM 102 won a PAR award (Pro Audio Review magazine) at the AES show. It said the mic was geared toward vocal applications.
More as it comes in.

I saw an article in Mix magazine that only mentioned it. There should be some reviews coming out soon. If they do, I'll pass on the information.

Hello everyone -- I've been looking around and haven't seen any real reviews on the TLM102. Anyone have any info/ an opinion? Thanks!

Hey all-- I am building a new studio (got alot of work ahead!) and I got all my soundproofing supplies from http://www.soundaway.com ...owner Skip has been a dream and a wealth of information. If anyone ever needs any soundproofing supplies, these guys are AMAZING.I did alot of shopping around and research and I have been amazed at how much solid advice they gave me well before I made moves to buy anything.
