Ask a Casting Director

I've cast hundreds of computer games and directed thousands of actors. Voice acting is much more demanding than voice overs. Happy to help anyone interested.

Wow! Lani, you tackle the really tough subjects, as I'm finding a lot of the IRTMVO folks are inclined to do! I'm really lovin' these important discussions. Thanks for your kind words about my being a drama teacher and stage actor the other day, too. Yeah! It really helps to have that background. And it will help as I tackle the challenging game and animation industry. Thanks for being there! By the way, your work is just glorious! What a voice! What versatility.

Yeah baby! That's what I'm talkin' about! I always revel when my nuts and bolts super charged instantly effective methods show what should be taught out there. No offense to those who use other techniques. Now don't go giving away ALL my secrets or I can't sell a book. Ha ha. I've already given away so much of my tricks of the trade, I think all I'd ask for is testimonials if I actually had time to come out with a Book/DVD. I could never figure out what to charge for something like that since I always give everything away.

What would anyone pay for a super charged, super useful, book with DVD that not only showed you gestures, techniques which you could use immediately, dialects and accents, copy cheats, and difference between all the genres of voiceovers and how to beat out the competition? Ideas anyone? I would be selling it as more of a favor because I'm always coaching (gratis) but it would help me save some time to audition or make money with my own voice if I wasn't always enjoying hours of phoners with voice talents.

You are the M'am!
I used the trick you taught me over the phone in a session today Lani! (the flicking finger to distract the brain while reading copy that's too long.)
For the first time in my life the producer said....you can slow it down.....you have time! It was awesome! Thanks for sharing your practical nuts and bolts know how Lani!

Lani,

Thanks for the heads-up on this group. What a very, very cool concept. Its great to get a perspective from someone who is actually in the position to make the casting decisions and who really knows what a VO talent should sound like. I'll be sure to keep a close eye on this group.

Love the info on responding to casting notices and the Sphinx English Language bit. Thanks.
Jon
