Help!

I woke up one morning to find that I had left my Behringer Mixer on all night long. I didn't think much of it but when I tried to record nothing came through! My mixer didn't light up to indicate incoming sound from my condenser microphone (B-1 Behringer).

I thought it was my mixer, so I bought a new one and nothing improved. Does anyone know what the porblem could be? The XLR cable? The microphone? Fried by possible overheating?

I have never had problems with my mic so I never invested time into technical insight... can someone suggest anything?

Thanks!

Test. Phantom power by turning off and the on again and there will be a "splat" sound or some indication it is sending power to mic. If so then it's ok.

Disconnect mic cable at mic and watch for indications on your mixer to see if anything registers. If it does mic cable is ok.

Also try recording when you do both of the above to ensure soundcard and recording software is ok.

If you get noise from all of the above then I fear you need to get a new mic as your is not economical to repair.

Should you wish to call me, feel free.

Thanks for your Help Phillip. I tried a TAPE IN to the Mixer and the lights indicate a feed in, and I can hear on my head phones. So that means the XLR and Mixer are OK. Looks like I'll need to buy a new Microphone... I wanted to upgrade for a while, perhaps it's destiny but I don't know why it would just stop working... perhaps because I used an adapter for the mixer to UK power? (I have a USA mixer)

Now it's time to find a new mic I suppose, do you suggest any UK outlets?

I just found out that it is indeed the mixer. I've been in a whirlwind of confusion. I tested my mic at the University TV station and it worked fine, as well as the xlr cable, so I think the mixer wasn't transferring power. The strange this is, I bought a new mixer and returned it because it repeated the same as my defective mixer. So the one I purchased may have been faulty when I bought it! Strangeness... now I have to go to the music store and convince the manager that the mixer that I bought 3 weeks ago and returned was defective, and that I should get my money back... but when I returned it I assumed it was fine... sorry if this is confusing... the moral is beware of Behringer I suppose!
