Hello All,

I was shocked and beyond disappointed as the Academy Of Arts And Sciences FAILED to pay tribute to the great Don Lafontaine last evening as part of the group whom had left us in 2008. This is an outrage as Don SHOULD OF been part of the tribute. What can you do? SIMPLE!

I have called and emailed the Academy regarding this unfortunate situation and I am asking all of you to follow suit and do the right thing by sharing your feelings as well. The email address is:

president@oscars.org

I spoke to Sid Ganis (President of the Academy) assistant who assured me that ALL emails will be forwarded to Sid's blackberry.......

Thank You,

David Marc

This same subject appears to be popping up on quite a few forums and blogs. Although this is the first I have seen where anybody is encouraging a letter writing campaign.

Here has been my response to other similar angered posts.

This was most definitely not a snub. Don certainly had a special history with the motion picture industry, but simply was not a member of the Academy, nor met the overall criteria for those who are commemorated at the awards.

Yes he did work once as an announcer for these same awards, but over the years, thousands of people contributed to the awards program and to honor one above all the others simply isn't right.

Of course, as a respected member of SAG, Don was commemorated during their awards program and he will also be recieving a posthumous award next month from AFTRA. Both of these organizations being the appropriate vehicles to honor Don.

The great respect and love Don had with so many people, as well as the impact he had on so many, should be testimony enough to the life of this true professional and humanitarian. There is certainly no reason why anyone can not or shouldn't honor Don in their own special way.
