I am absolutely sure my wife has heard it a million times, "Damn, what I wouldn't give to tell a story like Tom Kane". I also watch and listen to every "Modern Marvels" episode I can get to. I am absolutely fascinated, my wife says obsessed, with his(I am not sure of the guys name. I keep missing the credits) ability to tell me a story, rather than read me a story. I really enjoy the way he brings them to life. Who are you listening to?
Peter Thomas....."Forensic Files" he's been a mjor voice over artist for nearly 60 years and still goin' strong! Paul Frees....amazing....Orson Welles......Bill Conrad and all the greats of old time radio.
One of the people I like listening to and trying to emulate, is Bill Curtis from A&E. I like his pacing, his style delivery and his voice. Take special note as how he moves his hands. Not used as a prop, but a meter and guide. Very effective. I also like Bill Courage and an old radio friend of mine, Marc Chambers.
Admitting this may get me kicked off this site but here it is: Tommy Heinsohn. I had wanted to be a sportscaster growing up and this man's enthusiasm and fire is just legendary in my mind. Granted, I sound NOTHING like that (um, first of all I'm a girl) but I can listen to him all day and not get tired of that crazy voice and attitude and way he tells a story. He's not a vo guy but to have such a long-standing career just for being himself is pretty admirable.
Well, I finally remembered at the end of "Modern Marvels" to look at the credits. Max Raphael is the narrator, and in my opinion, remember it is an opinion, the best narrator I have heard. It drives me crazy because I would love to hear more of his work, but Googling him does no good. Anyone have any links to anything else besides Modern Marvels that he has done?
I was lucky enough to watch him work when I was first starting out in the business and he was a phenomenon to watch perform behind the mic. I heard that voice and it all "clicked" for me. What a great nice man too...a true gentleman and professional.
