This is almost embarrassing because Toyota designed the nav system not to let you interact with the direction finder while the car is moving. It sure has irritated a lot of people, so I apologize but I didn't design it.
The same company I recorded the nav prompts for said it was going to be sold to Nissan, Porsche and others but I have no idea. BTW I had to be super flat and boring with this job so I wouldn't make women jealous or men distracted and there was a chick who had started the project before I was brought on board, so I had to sound as "uninteresting" as she did.
Too funny!
That's so funny that you apologize! I find I do that a lot when people I meet tell me how annoying I am (not ME but the voice stuff I do. really, it can't be me, can it?). This is a great example of how we can't always let our voices take over and be distinctive but have to let the product shine through our voice. Congrats on the gig!! I'm going to pretend I know you, too, if I ever sit in a Prius!
Thank you Mandy. However the Prius job had been started by some chick who moved out of the area with a rather midwestern nasally sound. I had to first try and imitate that and later I was allowed to gradually let more of my own voice seep in. However I was specifically told not to be interesting or distracting. Wow, to be known for that is rather depressing. LOL Thank you for your comment. We voice actors get to be all sorts of different things, and never have to be all dressed up for our performance. Saweet!
I get so flustered and frustrated when they want me to sound like the person they had before. Don't hire me if I don't have the sound you want!! Or hire me for my sound and just talk about me behind my back.
Here in the UK I did a national tv ad for Jacamo, an online mens clothing website. They ran it on all the Sky News/Sport channels, Discovery, Bravo, Dave, ITV 2&4. I had to go back into the studio this week to re-read some phone numbers as they are going to run it again. Nice!!
wish I could see your ad but it won't pull up for me using IE or Mozilla.
I'm off to LA for the day but I'll check back in tonight.
Cheers and congratch!!

Of all the people in this world, they chose the Best and then told her to be boring and uninteresting! That must have been a challenge. I can imagine the urge to be goofy and add a fun twist to the project. Something like "Didn't I tell you to turn LEFT?!?! Are you directionally challenged or WHAT?"
